ผลวิจัยชี้ ผู้หญิงทั่วโลกที่รับตำแหน่งสูงๆ ในวงการ STEM ได้แก่ วิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยี วิศวกรรม และคณิตศาสตร์ มีเพียง 1 ใน 5 เท่านั้น
งานวิจัยจากมหาวิทยาลัยมิชิแกนและองค์กรสเต็มเซลล์ในนิวยอร์กของสหรัฐฯ กล่าวว่า ปัจจุบันมีผู้หญิงเพียง 1 ใน 5 เท่านั้นที่ทำงานในตำแหน่งสูงๆ ในวงการวิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยี วิศวกรรมศาสตร์ และคณิตศาสตร์ (STEM) ทั่วโลก ทั้งๆ ที่มีผู้หญิงเรียนต่อในระดับสูงในด้านเหล่านี้ถึงร้อยละ 50 ของยอดนักศึกษาทั้งหมด
ข้อมูลจากงานศึกษาชี้ว่า ผู้หญิงที่ทำงานในตำแหน่ง ‘ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์’ มีประมาณร้อยละ 40 ขณะที่มีผู้หญิงในตำแหน่ง ‘รองศาสตราจารย์’ ประมาณร้อยละ 30 และมีผู้หญิงเพียงร้อยละ 20 เท่านั้นในตำแหน่ง ‘ศาสตราจารย์’
‘ซูซาน แอล โซโลมอน’ หัวหน้าองค์กรสเต็มเซลล์ในนิวยอร์ก กล่าวว่า เมื่อผู้หญิงถูกปิดกั้นไม่ให้มีโอกาสพัฒนาความสามารถอย่างเต็มที่ ผลกระทบจะไปตกอยู่กับทั้งวงการนั้นๆ
\”เราต้องการพลังสมอง 100 เปอร์เซ็นต์ เพื่อสร้างผลกระทบที่ยิ่งใหญ่ และผลักดันงานวิจัยไปข้างหน้าให้เร็วที่สุด\” ซูซาน กล่าว

The world’s greatest science communication competition returns to our screens! After competing in two semifinals, ten researchers and young professionals have been selected to battle it out for the title of world’s best science communicator in the FameLab International 2021 Online Final. The finalists have just three minutes to enlighten and entertain judges and the audience and you’ll have chance to cast your vote for your favourite talk!

FameLab International brought together 23 emerging science communicators from all over the world to break down barriers to public engagement in science through accessible threeminute talks. The online events featured content from researchers and young professionals in the STEM sector spanning a range of themes that tackle pressing global societal issues including health, wellbeing and climate change. The FameLab International Final 2021 contains content themes that some viewers may find upsetting, including discussion of sexual violence. Parental guidance is advised.
